Marvel is crushing right now. The word of mouth on Thor: Ragnarok has been buzzing for weeks now, a phenomenal second trailer for Black Panther was released just yesterday, and now we have an awesome new look at the MCU film currently in production, Ant-Man and the Wasp. Filming has been underway for a while now, but now some new set photos have popped up online that give us some fantastic looks at the title heroes in their suits, together.
Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne can be seen together in their titular costumes, which marks the first time we’ve seen the characters side-by-side. While I love the small updated look Ant-Man is getting over each movie we’re seeing him, the standout in these photos is Wasp’s costume. When the official image of her suit dropped months back, I was a bit skeptical at first because it looked like a black or darker blue color. But these photos reveal that her costume is not that dark, rather a shade of royal blue. Now that I can see that, without the final films tint that is, I’m all on board for the color scheme going on. I love it. It looks badass, and Lilly is even more badass which means that van Dyne under the helmet of Wasp will be 110% badass.
As for the actual photos, they look absolutely fantastic together. Rudd and Lilly’s chemistry in the first movie was as strong as it gets in the MCU, but now I’m interested in seeing how their characters work together when it comes down to the action. It should be another fin trip with these characters, especially since we now know that Ant-Man and Wasp will be exploring the quantum realm this time around, to save van Dyne’s mother, Janet van Dyne (played by Michelle Pfeiffer).
One aspect of this film that’s being glazed over is that Evangeline Lilly is the co-lead of this film. Lilly’s character is set to have a much larger role this time, marking the first time Marvel Studios has released a film with a female co-lead in the MCU. Sure, it won’t be to the extent of Captain Marvel, which will begin filming next year, but it’s not just Ant-Man anymore, it’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and that’s a big deal.
Check out the new set photos below, thanks to Just Jared. What do you think of the costumes? How excited are you for the Ant-Man sequel? How about the character of Wasp? Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and the Wasp is released on July 6th, 2018 and also sees the returns of Michael Douglass, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, T.I., and David Dastmalchian and adds newcomers Hannah John-Kamen, Laurence Fishburne, Walton Goggins, and Randall Park.
