Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Blockers, the 2018 comedy that stars John Cena, Leslie Mann and Ike Baronholtz. This is our first look at the roster of 2018 comedies and damn has it started off on a strong note. Universal pulled an incredibly smart movie by revealing the red band trailer, allowing the audience to see the movie in its natural habitat. The movie acts as the directorial debut for Kay Cannon and follows three parents who, after discovering their daughters’ pact to lose their virginity on prom night, launch a one-night mission to stop them from sealing the deal.
For starters, this movie was completely unknown to me when I saw the trailer pop up on my YouTube subscription page. I wasn’t sure what kind of movie it was or who it starred, even scrolled over it a few times before I clicked play. And I must say, I’m really really happy I decided to watch this trailer because it’s one of the best comes trailers I’ve seen recently.
The trailer begins with some great background on what exactly the movie is about, but there after is a cut together sequence of different scenes that bring out all the stops, which is topped off with John Cena, the worldwide wrestling champion of the world, butt chugging a beer against a cocky High School kid. I mean, come on… While many will be talking about the trailer and whether or not it makes you laugh, I love the fact that the trio of parents are completely random in the best way possible. Leslie Mann has been a mainstay in comedy flicks for years now. Ike Baronholtz has started to come on hot after a few appearances alongside Seth Rogen and company. John Cena on the other hand was ignored as an actor to begin with, but following his performance in Trainwreck and Sisters, everyone jumped on board with his Blockers role looking like his best yet.
As you can see, I’m now pretty interested in the movie now, but now that you’ve heard my thoughts, what do you think? Did the trailer make you laugh? What do you think of the trio of parents? Let me know in the comments! Blockers is due out April 6th of next year.
