‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Featurette: Meet Cate Blanchett’s Goddess of Death, Hela

As part of HelaWeen, Marvel Studios has released a new featurette that focuses on Thor: Ragnarok‘s villain, Hela. “HelaWeen” is a marketing tool used by Marvel, where we’ll be getting something new each day in October leading up to the release of Ragnarok in early November.

Hela, the Goddess of Death, is the first main female villain the MCU will feature. We’ve seen female baddies before, such as Ayesha from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but never before has a Marvel film had a woman take center stage as its main antagonist. And it looks like a fantastic outing.

The featurette holds some very interesting things, including Blanchett explaining why Hela was not just appealing to her, but will be very appealing to fans as well. So far that seems to be the complete truth, as her turn as the character looks to be absolutely brilliant. If anything, hopefully it’s better than her first time as a big blockbuster villain. Although the movie wasn’t her fault, her Irina Spalko character from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was one of the head scratchers of that sequel. If it is, let’s all hope it’s good enough to be more than just a one-and-done villain. A MCU mainstay villain played by someone like Cate Blanchett just sounds right.

Take a look at the new featurette below. What do you think of Hela so far? Does she look as menacing to you as she does me? Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3rd and stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Tessa Thompson, Idris Elba, and Anthony Hopkins.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok”, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok- the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization- the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger- the Incredible Hulk! “Thor: Ragnarok” thunders into theatres on November 3, 2017.
