In shocking but yet impressive casting, actress Michelle Williams has been cast in an undisclosed role in the Sony movie Venom. While we don’t know officially who she will be playing, it has been rumored that she will be playing a district attorney and love interest opposite Tom Hardy. Williams stellar acting roles makes this movie a little bit more high profile than what people were expecting. It is still unknown if Spider-man will make any sort of appearance in this adaptation of the Spider-man universe villain. This is a huge change of pace for Michelle Williams who has most recently been seen in movies such as Manchester by the Sea and Blue Valentine. Williams and Hardy have potential to be a fantastic pairing for this movie and depending on how strong the script is should lead to awesome collaboration between the two. venom

Personally, this casting has largely peaked my interest in this movie. The casting of Hardy and Williams means that Sony is taking this movie very seriously which excites me. I would love to see a Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy style story telling when it comes to Venom. Now I’m not expecting the amazing piece of art the is the Dark Knight movies, but I would love to see them tell the story of Eddie Brock and his acquisition of the Venom symbiote. I think if they focused on the inner struggle of Eddie Brock wanting to use the power of the Venom symbiote and being a normal human being, that would be an amazing story to tell. In fact I don’t even want Spider-man anywhere near these stories. I think they can potentially get away without him depending on how strong the writing is. We won’t know until next year as Venom is scheduled for a October 5th, 2018 release date. So what do you guys think? Does this casting get you excited about Venom, or could you care less?
