Warner Bros. has revealed the first official trailer for their upcoming Tomb Raider. WB announced the trailer drop yesterday with releasing a teaser poster for the movie, and while we had to wait all damn day, we now have our first official look at the reboot of the movies that featured legendary action star Angelina Jolie in the role.
Directed by Roar Uthaug, Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander stars as Lara Croft who, in this version, is a young 21 year old bike courier navigating her way through the chaotic streets on London with no real purpose. Trying to forge her own path, she explicitly goes against the wishes of her long-lost father to try and find him at his last known destination, a mythical island off the coast of Japan where she must not only face those possibly behind his disappearance, but push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown.
I’ve sadly haven’t clicked play on this trailer yet. Trust me, I’m just as bummed as you are. The reason being is because I’m waiting to do an official trailer reaction for it tomorrow morning, where you’ll be able to see my live reaction to the first trailer for the quite exciting reboot. Quickly though, I couldn’t be any more excited to check out the trailer. I’ve heard great things of Uthaug as a director, Vikander is my favorite working actress today, the supporting cast is very strong, and having the story based off of the most recent video games is a great backbone. Can’t wait. Tomb Raider will hit theaters on March 18th, 2018 and also stars Walter Goggins, Daniel Wu and Dominic West.
Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.
Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.
