20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for the new Jennifer Lawrence film, Red Sparrow. Red Sparrow sees Lawrence re-team with director of the final three The Hunger Games movies Francis Lawrence (no relation) and follows a young Ballerina Dominika Egorova who suffers a career-ending injury. When Dominika and her mother are facing an uncertain future, she is recruited by a secret intelligence service known as Red Sparrow where she trains to use her body and mind as a weapon.
Jennifer Lawrence is probably the most talented young actress working today. Her track record thus far, as well as her outside personality is a clear indication of that. While that’s very much the case, I was kind of getting a bit bored with the roles she’s taken lately, meaning that they all felt like the same thing. This, this is exactly the kind of mix-up I’ve been waiting for with her.
We’ve seen her do action in The Hunger Games and X-Men movies, the next step was to take it even further into this realm of thriller, where it features a much darker tone than just your everyday action movie. I’m loving it. And we’ve seen the kind of success her and Francis Lawrence have had together, with Catching Fire easily being my favorite of the bunch. Then you throw in the dynamic of seeing two high caliber actors like Lawrence and Joel Edgerton bouncing off of each other for two hours and the fact that I loved Atomic Blonde (similar) with Charlize Theron this summer, I think it’s safe to say I’m 100% in on this one.
Check out the first trailer below and after doing so, let me know what you think in the comments! Did the teaser intrigue you? How about Lawrence in the role? Lawrence’s Red Sparrow will be released on March 2nd, 2018 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker and Jeremy Irons.
Dominika Egorova is many things. A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs. A prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit. A master of seductive and manipulative combat.
When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.
