To keep the hype alive, Marvel has revealed a batch of new images for Thor: Ragnarok image, the upcoming sequel directed by Taika Waititi. The third film in the franchise sees the God of Thunder imprisoned on the other side of the universe in a race against time before Hela, the Goddess of Death, unleashes Ragnarok on Asgard. But first he must strive a lethal gladiatorial match against a co-worker, the Hulk.
From what we’ve seen from this film thus far, the threequel looks like an insanely fun ride. While I personally haven’t minded the first two Thor movies, they are by far the most disliked out of the solo franchises. And luckily for us fans, the script was flipped, as director Taika Waititi was brought in with some major story points to really make sure the third time is the charm.
When it comes to these new images, they express the true spirit of this film, with bright colors, big set pieces and tons of new alien species we’ve never seen before. Some would argue that the film looks too damn similar to James Gunn’s glorious creation in Guardians of the Galaxy. While it’s clear to me that the film has its own distinct tone, what’s so wrong with another big, colorful, spacey film that looks as visually beautiful as Ragnarok does?
As to what the images reveal? Most of the images are just a different angle or look at scenes we’ve seen through footage, but some are quite interesting. First, why are Loki and Valkyrie in each other’s crosshairs? We’ve seen in the trailer that they end up working together, and the image seems to still be taking place on Sakaar, so what’s that about? Second, what kind of revelations will be connected to Hulk and his “disappearance” in Avengers: Age of Ultron? It would make sense for the story to explain it in detail, and according to the new image of Thor checking out an abandoned Quinjet, it will do that. How the f did Bruce Banner end up on Sakaar of all places? Please don’t leave me wondering!
Lastly, and more of just an excitement point for myself. I’m really looking forward to Thor and Loki’s time on Earth. I hope it’s more than just a quick scene. The idea of these two brothers heading down to Earth to find their mind-melted father with one of them being the reasons why that’s the case just sounds like a blast, especially if big revelations come from it.
Check out all the new images below and after you do, let me know your thoughts in the comments. What do you think? Any thoughts on the points I brought up? Which character or aspect are you looking forward to the most? Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3rd.
