Charlize Theron is currently prepping for the release of her new kick-ass looking action film Atomic Blonde, but from what it sounds like, another tentpole franchise may be on her mind. 2015 brought the glorious return of the Mad Max franchise with Mad Max: Fury Road from mastermind himself George Miller. The film was a masterpiece, flat-out. But on top of that, the film brought not only our want for a sequel as soon as possible, but a prequel focusing on one character and one character only, Imperator Furiosa.
Charlize Theron’s Furiosa was arguably the best part of the film. Not just because how strong, driven and loyal George Miller made her, but because the development she had. Her backstory was teased multiple times, leaving us fans wanting that exact story on the big screen. And from the sounds of it, Theron does as well. While speaking with Variety recently, Theron was asked about the potential of a prequel. She not only expressed her want for one, but said that it ultimately isn’t up to her:
I’d love to. There were three scripts. They were written as back stories to Max’s character and to Furiosa’s character. But at the end of the day, this thing lives and breathes with [director] George [Miller]. I think Warner Bros. knows that. We are all waiting for him to show us the way.
As I said earlier, Theron was easily the best part of Fury Road. Her Furiosa and the way she played her, it’s second to only Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley. Yeah, that good. Her story is not only played out through action, but her eye and facial expression as well. It’s something I’d pay more than just a typical theater ticket to see. Now I don’t want a Mad Max universe of any kind, but a Furiosa film makes complete sense. She’s a rich character that deserves to have her story told. And just she mentions, hopefully that’s with Miller behind the camera.
What do you think readers? Do you want to see a Furiosa prequel? Were you a fan of Fury Road? What should come first, a Fury Road sequel or Furiosa prequel? Make sure to head to theaters this weekend and watch Theron kick insane amounts of ass in David Leitch’s Atomic Blonde.
