San Diego Comic Con is here and it kicked off with a bang this morning! While it came to much of a surprise to learn that 20th Century Fox was holding their SDCC panel today, that was all washed away by quite a special treat in the form of a new, red band trailer for the upcoming sequel to the surprise hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Matthew Vaughn returned to the chair to direct the sequel, with Taron Egerton, Mark Strong and yes, Colin Firth joining him. They are joined by newcomers Julianne Moore as the villain and Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Halle Berry as part of the Kingsman’s American cousins, the Statesman.
This trailer got me pumped! I watched it bright and early this morning and I was very satisfied with what I was watching. The action looks fantastic and it looks like it’ll be very much in line with the first movies tone, as it should be. But some of the best parts of this trailer come when the Kingsman ways of doing things are done the same way by the Statesman, just in true American form. Rather than an umbrella or brief case, it’s a lasso or shotgun. Rather than a suit and scotch, it’s a cowboy get-up with whiskey. It’s all over the trailer and it never gets old.
If this film is able to capture the essence of the first movie, while also creating something entirely new (story, evolution, action), then it’ll be a masterful hit. The first movie did so well because it was so flat-out different. It’s not your everyday spy flick like James Bond. It’s not your everyday comic book movie like the MCU or DCEU. It’s a blend of all of that, as well as the foul-mouthed Deadpool, which is why it’s such an exciting franchise. After the first movie, I’ll continue to go back to the adventures of Eggsy and the Kingsman, as long as Matthew Vaughn is involved in one way or another.
Check out the first trailer below and after doing so, please head down to the comments and give me your thoughts. Did you like it as much as I did? What was your favorite part? Do you like the Statesman addition and those playing them? Also check out my reaction to the trailer, which I’ve posted below! Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle is released on September 27th and stars Taron Egerton, Julianne Moore, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Colin Firth.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…
