‘The Dark Tower’: Learn the Legacy of Idris Elba’s Gunslinger in New Footage

Sony and Columbia Pictures has unveiled a new look at the upcoming The Dark Tower. The long-awaited Stephen King adaptation has had a tough road to the big screen, but thankfully for everyone and more importantly, its fans, it’s nearly here. The Dark Tower follows the all-important Gunslinger, played by Idris Elba, as he roams an Old West like dimension in search for the dark tower, an all-important tower that will not only preserve his dying world, but the real world as well.

For starters, I have not read the highly popular books this movie is based on. I hope to one day tackle that monster of a series, but for now, I’m hoping this movie (and hopefully possible sequels) will fulfill the need to see what this story is all about. I’ve heard nothing but fantastic words about it and because of Elba and Matthew McConaughey being a part of the very first adaptation, my expectations are at a good size level.

With not having read the books yet, I don’t know the backstory or history of the famous Gunslingers. All I know, from what I’ve seen in the trailers, is they kick an insane amount of ass with a pair of pistols and oath that takes them farther than anything else. I’ve loved everything I’ve seen from Elba and his Gunslinger character so far, and that continues in this new preview for the film. The history of these almost ancient like warriors is pretty damn interesting. What happened to them? How many were there? Why is Elba the only one remaining? I’m not sure if the film will answer this questions, but I’m hoping to find out one day, even if that comes from reading the books.

Anyway, check out the new preview below and as the title says, learn about the legacy of the Gunslinger. Are you excited for the adaptation? Have you read the books? Do you like the trailers? Nikolaj Arcel’s The Dark Tower hits theaters on August 4th, 2017 and stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Abbey Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick, and Tom Taylor.

Gunslinger Roland Deschain roams an Old West-like landscape in search of the dark tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.
