Annapurna Pictures has (finally) released the new trailer for Detroit, the next project from acclaimed director Kathryn Bigelow. Bigelow re-teamed with her The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal to bring us a thrilling crime drama set in the backdrop of the devastating Detroit riots that took place over five days in the summer of 1967, which started by a police raid of an unlicensed bar in the city’s Near West Side.
This film looks masterful. The tone is absolutely perfect for the content, the story Bigelow and Boal are telling is compelling and interesting in so many way, and the cast, the cast is all-around very strong. Quite frankly, the film looks terrifying, especially the scenes revolving around John Boyega’s security officer. Given that Bigelow is directing, it comes to no surprise as moments of both The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty did the same. In my opinion, there’s no better director out there to tackle such a true story as this one. No wonder she took such a big gap to develop this kind of project.
Take a look at the new trailer below and after doing so, let me know what you think in the comments below. Are you on board as much as I am? Do you like Bigelow’s work? Bigelow’s Detroit hits theaters on August 4th, 2017 and stars John Boyega, John Krasinski, Anthony Mackie, Jacob Latimore, Jason Mitchell, Will Poulter, and Jack Reynor.
