First ‘Black Panther’ Trailer Reveals Marvel’s King of Wakanda

The first official trailer for Marvel’s Black Panther has arrived! After debuting a teaser poster this morning, Disney and Marvel unveiled the teaser trailer for Ryan Coogler’s upcoming film during game four of the NBA Finals Friday night, and boy oh boy is it a thing of beauty! Chadwick Boseman’s King of Wakanda was first introduced in last year’s Captain America: Civil War, where he was thrust into a conflict between two of the same side after the assassination of his father. Now as he takes the throne, T’Challa returns home where his life as King and Black Panther are tested when a powerful old enemy reappears, putting his homeland of Wakanda and the entire world at risk.

This is fire. Like, this is some serious fire. The tone is the biggest aspect that is thrown at you, and boy is it thrown at you. People may forget, but this is a Marvel film. We’re always talking about how comic book movies can evolve. Well, this is exactly it. It’s incredible. It’s scary incredible. From the world building, vibrant colors and strong music choice to amazing looking characters and insane cinematography, Black Panther is officially here.

Now I mentioned the tone earlier, and one of the most intriguing aspects of the tone is how this film seems to balance both an ancient and highly advanced world. If you see Wakanda from the top, it’s shiny and looks to be technologically advanced in every way. But as you go down to street level, within its veins, it’s clearly an ancient world with Andy Serkis’ character Ulysses Klaw even describing it as the misplaced El Dorado. How can that not be exciting?

Panther was arguably one of the best parts about last year’s Civil War, period. Chadwick Boseman shined in all facets as the character, and that’s exactly why this film has such excitement revolving around it. And because of that, this trailer needed to hit hard to continue that kind of anticipation, and boy did it. It’s mind-blowing. Boseman is truly embracing this character. Michael B. Jordan is rocking a SWEET new hairdo. The supporting cast led by Lupita Nyong’o and Forest Whitaker looks like the strongest in a Marvel film yet. And the action, like do I need to say anything about it? No guns, bombs or superheroes. Straight mano y mano. That’s the kind of “different” the MCU needs.

Check out he first trailer below and after doing so, please let me know what you think in the comments. What stood out to you? Do you like the look of it so far? Let’s have a conversation! Coogler’s Black Panther hits theaters on February 16th, 2018 and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
