Ever wanted to run casino in-house? If you do, don’t follow the plan according to Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. Warner Bros. has released the new red band trailer for their upcoming summer comedy The House. Ferrell and Poehler play Scott and Kate Johansen, parents who lose their daughter’s college fund. After learning of their daughter’s acceptance, they become desperate to earn it back to fulfill her dream of attending a university, and decide to start a casino in the basement of their neighbor’s house.
Will Ferrell will go down as one of the great comedy minds. From his time on SNL to his great roles of Ron Burgundy and Ricky Bobby, he has been atop the game for quite a long time. Many continue to enjoy his work and the kind of comedy he expresses on screen, but myself, it has become an old gag. Over the last few years, I’ve become tired of his style of comedy, as it continues to be the same thing over and over and over again. When it comes to Amy Poehler, she’s a few notches above at the “hit or miss” stage. Some of her stuff I really like and others I just can’t watch. As for The House? Unfortunately, it just looks like another sorry excuse for a comedy.
Now I’m not saying this movie won’t be funny, I’m sure it will have some moments. But I really don’t think any of those will come from its lead actors. Unlike next week’s Baywatch, where it looks like every major or supporting character will get at least one moment to shine, it looks like the good comedy will be coming from those surrounding our main characters, rather than them running the show. Now that’s not a good thing, is it?
Watch the red band trailer below and after doing so, let me know your thoughts in the comments. Do you feel the same as I do? Any moments you liked in the trailer? The House will open on June 30th, 2017 and stars Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Jason Mantzoukas, Nick Kroll, and Allison Tolman.
After Scott and Kate Johansen (Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler) lose their daughter Alex’s college fund, they become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university. With the help of their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in the basement of his house.
