Why does it seem like the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released just yesterday? Oh, that’s right, we can’t stop watching it. At least I can’t. It was a great first step on our journey to Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi, a journey I cannot wait go on. With the first trailer now out, we more than likely on’t get a second batch of footage until at least early July, possibly before a little movie called Spider-Man: Homecoming?
While we’ll all be waiting for a full-length trailer to see what the hell The Last Jedi is really all about after that fantastic line of dialogue in the teaser from none other than Luke Skywalker, a few fans have taken it upon themselves to do edit the trailer after seeing a similar theme to 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back. There could definitely be a dozen more out there, but I’ve included the two I’ve come across in the last few days, with each being really really strong edits.
I’ve heard many complaints about how similar The Last Jedi looks to The Empire Strikes Back, and while these trailers only add fuel to the fire, I for one believe that it will be similar in a much different way. It won’t follow the same story points or ending or whatever else fans are thinking out there. Simply, the only similarity I see between the two is the darkness, the shift in tone. Where the story will go next after The Force Awakens in no way follows how the original trilogy played out. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
Take a look at the trailers below and after doing so, let me know what you think of them. Which one is your favorite? How similar do you think it will be to The Empire Strikes Back? Do you agree or disagree with me? Ryan Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits a theater in a galaxy near you on December 15th, 2017.
