Jude Law Is Young Albus Dumbledore for ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Sequel

Until I watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I cannot give my opinion on this new Harry Potter franchise that Warner Bros. is moving forward with. However, the additions of Johnny Depp and now Jude Law for the upcoming sequel has put that first film at the top of my list of “unwatched films that I need to see.”

That’s right, Warner Bros. has announced the addition of Jude Law to the cast of the Fantastic Beasts sequel, and he’ll play a younger version of Albus Dumbledore. This means we’ll be seeing Law (as Dumbledore) and Depp (as Gellert Grindelwald) onscreen, giving us that infamous wizarding duel between these once close friends. Of course, I fully expect this franchise to build up to that epic moment, after the studio announced this current franchise will span over five films. Returning to helm the sequel is director David Yates, who I still think gave the Harry Potter series its best onscreen duel yet near the conclusion of Order of the Phoenix. Now he’ll be working with some big time actors going into the next installment.

Principal photography on Fantastic Beasts 2 will begin this summer, as the studio has confirmed a November 16, 2018 release date. Below is an official statement from Yates on the casting of Law:

“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”
