First ‘The Fate of the Furious’ Clip Spoils the Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham Prison Scene

With The Fate of the Furious just around corner, Universal has released the first official clip for F. Gary Gray’s take on the street racing franchise that turned to thrilling heists as a last resort. The trailers for Fast 8 have hit the public eye and been returned with a mixed bag of thoughts. Many ride or die with the movies no matter what, but others (including myself) have jumped ship due to the trailers ability to make it feel realistic. They are words I never thought I’d say, but I’m not looking forward to the next chapter in the legendary Fast & Furious franchise.

Although the trailers have turned me off of the next Fast movie, there were moments in the trailers that I did want to see. Unfortunately the biggest moment, which is the prison riot scene with Dwayne Johnson’ Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, has now been ruined by the released of a first clip. Now I will say the clip only seems to be about half of the full scene, but why the hell would they want this clip in any other form but part of the full release? Sure, it’s a great scene to get fans excited, but now audiences will go into theaters having already scene most of the scene. WHY?

The addition of director F. Gary Gray seemed like the best director’s choice at the time, but ever since we saw any kind of footage, maybe it wasn’t as good as we originally thought. Anyway, check out the first official clip below. I’ve also attached a new featurette titled “Family,” which I’m sure will be followed by some heavy marketing over the next week or so. What do you think? Was it a good idea to reveal this scene? Are you looking forward to Fast 8 at all? The Fate of the Furious rides into theaters on April 14th, 2017.

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.
