Tom Holland Learns the Hard Way in New ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Trailer

Just as they teased yesterday, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios unveiled the new, second official trailer for their upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. Directed by Jon Watts, Homecoming is the first of what is hopefully a long collaboration between the two studios after Tom Holland made his debut in Captain America: Civil War last year. Robert Downey Jr. and his Tony Stark co-star alongside Tom Holland as Peter Parker tries to return to his daily life as a High School student after being thrilled by his experience with the Avengers. But while trying to prove himself more than a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, a new villain emerges who will threaten everything Peter holds important.

With the first trailer, it was much more about reintroducing this new Spider-Man to the everyday movie going audience in his new, updated High School setting. Sure, we’ve seen Peter Parker in High School before, but it has never felt more perfect. Now with this second trailer, that aspect takes a back seat to action and more specifically, the plot. We get an exact idea as to what kind of story will be unfolding this summer. My only hope is that this film features a lot more of Parker in school, which is something we haven’t gotten a ton of in previous tellings of the character. Not just because Holland looks like he belongs in school, but because that’s the one thing that makes Spider-Man so different from the rest of the characters and heroes around him.

He’s been around since 2008, but we’ve never seen Tony Stark’s father-figure come out. His (good) intentions are revealed and in the heart of this trailer, he strips Parker of his new suit, knowing he isn’t quite ready. After this trailer, it’s definitely the relationship I’m looking forward to the most. RDJ’s Stark has made endless steps forward (and some back) in his time in the MCU. And now, the way Marvel (and Sony I guess) is using him as a mentor for a much younger Spider-Man, it’s pretty much genius. Fans should be really excited to see this duo on screen together, especially after their time in Civil War.

Take a look (or two or three) at the new trailer below and after doing so, let us know your thoughts in the comments! Which trailer do you like more? What was your favorite moment? How how (or low) is your excitement level now? Jon Watts Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7th, 2017 and stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Zendeya, Hannibal Buress, Abraham Attah, Angourie Rice, Martin Starr, and Logan Marshall-Green.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
