Dreamwork’s Animation has released the first official trailer for their upcoming, much more exciting than it should be Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. If you are unfamiliar with the Captain Underpants name, you need to do yourself a favor and pick up a copy or two of the popular comic/story. In this take of the property, the story follows two overly imaginative pranksters who hypnotize their principal into thinking he’s a ridiculous superhero named Captain Underpants.
Before I get to the actual trailer, I was quite a mighty fan of these stories when I was younger. I didn’t just read them, but I clearly remember doing a book report on one of the books in 6th grade. So it’s safe to say I have a history with this property. And as far as the trailer goes, it’s an interesting and frankly, the best way to bring these stories to the big screen. It’s obvious that this is a kid property, through and through, so to create a story where kids are responsible for the character of Captain Underpants, man is it going to attract a lot of little butts in the seats when released.
Now do I think it looks good? I thought the trailer was clever and had some fun moments, but as I said above, it’s 100% a kid property, and the trailer expresses that to the fullest. And having that solid early June release, there’s no doubt the first epic movie in a more than likely planned franchise will be massive come this summer.
