With 2017 featuring another Transformers movie, that means an overflow of footage as the summer season draws closer. Michael Bay returns yet again to the franchise, but in a turn of events that we had hoped for a few movies ago, the fifth installment will be Bay’s final entry into the blockbuster franchise.
Titled The Last Knight, T5 shatters the core myths of the franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero. Optimus Prime is gone, humans and Transformers are at war. And the key to saving the future lies buried in the past, hidden in the history of Transformers on Earth.
So far, and unusually, I’ve been so-so on the footage we’ve received for The Last Knight. Through the last number of years, as a new Transformers trailer has rolled in, so has our excitement. But this time, the opinion seems to be shifted, as the excitement is much less this time around. Don’t get me wrong, fans are still going bonkers over what they’re seen, but outside of hardcore fans, it just looks okay. Which, surprisingly, may end up being a good thing for this movie sa it might save some disappointment.
Anyway, it seems the true marketing run for The Last Knight has started as the first official clip, and TV spot, have been released. The clip focuses on Isabela Moner’s Izabella, who from trailers, looks to have a sizable role alongside Mark Wahlberg’s returning Cade Yeager. On the flip side, the extended spot plays as a new trailer for the movie, as a good chunk of new footage is featured, which includes the debut of baby dinobots! Even if Bay screws up the Dinobots this time (again), we at least have some cute ones to look at.
I’m still not sold on this movie just yet. Although I’ve been quite disappointed with the last few movies, I always want these movies to succeed because of my enjoyment from the property as a whole through the years. The one thing that has actually peeked my interest from the following footage is the idea of Transformers taking place in a dystopian future. It hasn’t been a focus so far, but the footage that’s teased below looks like it takes place in a world that has been overwhelmed. And that’s kind of cool.
