Just as promised, Marvel has unveiled the brand new trailer for James Gunn’s psychedelic sequel to the 2014 smash-hit Guardians of the Galaxy. Wanted from the day the first movie was released, Gunn and company return the MCU to a massively weird side of the universe, one that includes more than just a team of A-Holes. Thanks to Star-Lord himself – Chris Pratt – on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight, we finally got a new look at Vol. 2, which included our (long-awaited) first look at Kurt Russell’s Ego the Living Planet, also known as the father of Peter Quill.
Alongside our very quick look at, well, Kurt Russell in space garbs, the new trailer also gives a (in a way) welcome to Karen Gillan’s Nebula, even more looks at the adorable-ness of Baby Groot, and the kind of pure awesomeness Vol. 2 will feature in ways of action, comedy, and space bound epic-ness. With a whole bunch of new footage playing to a completely new tune, this new trailer for Marvel’s next monster is truthfully just an all-around damn good time.
Take a long, hard geeky look at the new trailer below and after doing so, let us know your thoughts in the comments. How does the sequel look to you? Which trailer did you like more? What are you most looking froward to? Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5th, 2017 and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Kurt Russell, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Elizabeth Debicki, Pom Klementieff, and Glenn Close.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
