When 2017 rolled around a few weeks back, everyone had one thing on their mind, sequels. While most years feature a number of big follow-ups, this year has quite a big number, with one of them being Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight.
This week brought the news that The Last Knight, Bay’s fifth movie in the franchise, will in fact (finally) be his final entry into the Transformers franchise. And while it seems we should be celebrating what Bay has done for this franchise, although the movies’ quality haven’t been up to par, we are rightfully picking apart how Bay can screw up this latest attempt at Transformers greatness for that very reason.
As with every year, the Super Bowl is one of the year’s biggest events for new trailers and footage. The event is viewed by millions across the world, leaving a great opportunity for studios to get their films out there ever more, even with the kind of price it costs. With Transformers being one of the most money-making franchises in the business right now, it comes to no surprise that the studio is writing a check for the big game and will play at least once when millions of eyes are watching. But for those who don’t care about the Super Bowl (who are you?) or just can’t wait for it to play, the spot has already been released online and you can give it a little gander below.
So far, all the footage has been so-so, which is quite odd to say for a Transformers trailer. Usually, they’re bonkers good, so maybe seeing a couple average trailers is a sign that Bay will finally get a little redemption and make a good Transformers. One can hope, right? Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 23rd, 2017 and stars Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, John Goodman, Isabela Moner, Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel, Ken Watanabe, and John Turturro.
The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).
