As unexpected as it gets, Lionsgate has released a brand new trailer for their upcoming, and quite long-awaited, big screen adaptation of Power Rangers. Those behind the movie have been adamant that this “reboot” would still keep many elements from the original TV show, but give it a modern day flair that it very much needs. But will it still feel cheesy? This trailer answers that question.
The debut trailer for movie, which was released a while back, did a pretty good job of introducing us into this big screen world of the Rangers. And from that trailer we could see how the movie will separate itself from the TV show, and it actually works much better. Now for this trailer, it’s expected for a second trailer to build on its predecessor, and it definitely does so.
I didn’t go into the trailer really expecting anything mind blowing, as I have no previous connections to the property, and although it didn’t blow my mind, it was much better than I thought. Now that we know who these teens are, it expands on their characters and what we learned last time, giving us our first look at the alien spaceship they get their powers from, as well as their mentors Zordon and Alpha-5. Just as much of the marketing has included to this point, there’s a little Rita Repulsa thrown in there, but the fun stuff comes near the end.
I know many, including our very own Power Rangers resident Jacob Bartley, were a bit disappointed by the looks of the Zords in toy form, but could this footage possibly wash all of that away? I think so, since the action teased between the Rangers and the Putties, and and the giant robots looks pretty badass. While all the action within the TV show was very cheesy, Dean Israelite looks to have captured action that strays far away from that its based on. Could Power Rangers actually be a surprise hit? Something I never actually expected to say, but yes, there’s a good chance it could be.
Take a look at the new trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments! Now that you’ve seen the action, what do you think? How does Zordon, the Zords, and the Putties look to you? Dean Israelite’s Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24th, 2017 and stars Dacre Montgomery, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Elizabeth Banks, Bill Hader, and Bryan Cranston.
