The Next Generation of Racers Arrive in the New ‘Cars 3’ Trailer

In celebration of tonight’s College Football Playoff National Championship game, Disney has released a brand new trailer for this summer’s Cars 3. Frankly, this movie has come out of nowhere, which began with a surprisingly dark teaser and poster drop a few months back. Now with a new trailer, it looks like the third movie of what’s considered a damp franchise may be one of this summers biggest hits.

I am really digging the approach Disney and Pixar is taking to the third Cars installment. The series so far has very much been aimed directly at kids, but now, I’m beginning to think otherwise after everything I’ve seen from Cars 3 to this point, for this movie anyway. Rather than go off on a tangent with some story to put Lightning back on track, this entry seems to be about racing and Lightning getting his mojo back after a new generation of racers have finally caught up to him. As of now, Mater doesn’t look to be involved, which will definitely take out that eye-rolling comedy from the first two movies. The action looks great, the new character additions (led by Armie Hammer’s Jackson Storm) look to be strong, all thumbs are up for Cars 3 right now, which is something I wasn’t expecting to say early in 2017.

Check out the new trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments. Are you just as surprised as I am? From what you’ve seen, what have you liked? Anything that doesn’t look or sound good? Disney’s Cars 3 races into theaters next summer on June 16th, 2017 and stars the voices of Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer, Cristela Alonzo, and Bonnie Hunt.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
