The first official trailer has been released for The Lost City of Z. The film, which is directed by James Gray, tells the true-life story of military man turned explorer, Percy Fawcett, who disappeared in the 1920s during his obsessive search for a lost/mysterious city in the Amazon. Charlie Hunnam of Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim fame stars as the British explorer, with Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, and Sienna Miller rounding out the cast.
The following trailer does a pretty damn good job of teasing the perils of exploration not only featured in the film come next Spring, but teased in the synopsis. It gives us a good idea that the story will evolve from an exciting adventure to something much darker, as these explorers face the true test of the Amazon. Not only that, but in such a short amount of footage, it clearly shows the type of beauty Gray has created. It’s visually stunning and seems to capture both the setting specific style very well.
Although not mentioned in the synopsis, the trailer lets us in on the madness that Fawcett may have gone through or rather, transformed into while searching for the city. It clearly became an obsession and may have decided the fate for not only himself, but those who journeyed along with him.

The Lost City of Z tells the incredible true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett, who journeys into the Amazon at the dawn of the 20th century and discovers evidence of a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the region. Despite being ridiculed by the scientific establishment who regard indigenous populations as “savages,” the determined Fawcett – supported by his devoted wife (Sienna Miller), son (Tom Holland) and aide de camp (Robert Pattinson) – returns time and again to his beloved jungle in an attempt to prove his case, culminating in his mysterious disappearance in 1925.
