First ‘Baywatch’ Trailer: The Beach Is Back

After releasing two very short trailer teases yesterday morning, Paramount Pictures revealed the first trailer for their upcoming R-rated comedy Baywatch. Helmed by Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon, Baywatch is “loosely” based on the popular ’90s TV series and stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron as Mitch Buchannon and Matt Brody in a very modern and updated world of lifeguards.

It’s known that Paramount has tried for years to get this project up and running, and while it hit many speed bumps along the way, it can pay heavy thanks to the 21 Jump Street and its R-rated retelling on its predecessor, and it’s very much on display in this first trailer. For those that are familiar with Baywatch will recognize a few call back jokes to the show, although it’s quite noticeable that this version of the sexy beach bods will stand quite separate from what it’s known for.

As far as a comedy goes, it’s not extremely promising with a few of the jokes hitting pretty good, such as that final “you people” gag, but more than not were clankers, not really giving us a kick. But with that said, having Johnson and Efron who have proven their comedy chops plenty times over gives me some pretty good confidence as to what this movie can be. I know what I’ll get from that duo, although I’m excited to see them together, but I’m more intrigued at the cast surrounding them and what kind of funny bits they bring to the table.

Check out the first trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Are you an original fan of Baywatch? What are your thoughts on the update? How about the cast and its first trailer? Sith Gordon’s Baywatch hits theaters on May 26th, 2017 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jon Bass, and Priyanka Chopra.
