New Featurette Gives a Strong Inside Look at ‘The Mummy’; New Images Released as Well

Last week, the first trailer for Universal’s reboot of The Mummy landed online with a pretty surprising bang. Although it stars Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe, we’ve all questioned Universal’s idea for the monster shared universe. And while that’s still up in the air, even I can admit that the first trailer for The Mummy was pretty awesome and featured some very intriguing new ideas.

No official character details have been revealed about Cruise’s character, but one can make a pretty good guess that he’s some kind of archeological digger or historian who gets wrapped up in this new world of Gods and monsters following the finding and releasing an ancient princess from her cryptic tomb deep beneath the desert floor. He’s joined by Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanet in a good twisted gender swap, Annabelle Wallis as Jenny Halsey, who seems to be Cruise’s fellow doctor, Courtney B. Vance as Colonel Gideon Forster, Jake Johnson as Sergeant Vail, and Russell Crowe as Dr. Henry Jekyll, another character we’ll eventually see turn monstrous in this shared monster universe.

Just days after its first trailer drop last week, a number of new images and new featurette were released to keep the hot streak going after the reception of its first trailer. Take a look at both below and give us your thoughts in the comments. What did you think of the trailer? Did it change your mind? Looking forward to it at all? Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy awakens in theaters on June 9th, 2017.

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
