Rumor Central: Benicio Del Toro & Laura Dern’s ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ Characters

The addition of Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern for Star Wars Episode VIII was no doubt exciting. Unfortunately, with so much secrecy surrounding the next installment in this new trilogy, there’s been very little knowledge about what type of characters these two great actors will play. This past week not much has changed, as more rumors have surfaced that give more details on their characters.

Sources are telling makingstarwars.net that Del Toro will play a classic “man in black” character that’s very dangerous. His appearance is described as very clean shaved, with hair not unlike Poe Dameron’s in length. Speculations from the site are saying Del Toro’s mysterious character is affiliated with a very major casino in the Star Wars galaxy. It’s unknown as to whether he’s a clear cut bad guy, although it’s likely our heroes won’t view him as one, yet. Also mentioned in the rumor is Laura Dern’s character. The site reports that her character is “very aristocratic and fancy” in a way unlike anything we’ve seen in Star Wars. Described as having pink hair and wearing fancy dresses, her character has sources making comparisons to The Hunger Games.

These rumors, should they be true, paint a clearer picture at what we might expect in Episode VIII. I’m no doubt very excited to see what these two veterans bring to the Star Wars franchise. Both are no strangers to blockbusters, with Del Toro recently appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Dern’s memorable roles in the Jurassic Park franchise. Under the direction of Rian Johnson, I’m expecting great things from both.
