After the official announcement earlier this past week, Universal Pictures unveiled the first full trailer for the upcoming Tom Cruise led reboot of The Mummy. The premise of the film is simple, put the risen Mummy back in her tomb. But unlike past versions, this version of the film does something very different with the main character, which makes it all that more interesting to check out next summer.

Frankly, very few movies of this genre have the balls to do what this reboot is attempting. It’s bold, brave, and holds quite a unique twist on this long-lived action adventure story. But what’s great about the trailer is that it very much plays on the horror aspect of this story, which is exactly what made the classic a classic. Keeping in mind both that and that shocking plot twist featured in the trailer, I’m comfortable saying I’m 10x more excited for The Mummy than I was about 15 minutes ago.

Check out the brand new trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments. Are you as interested as I am now? How does it look to you? Excited? Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy awakens in theaters on June 9th, 2017 and stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
