‘Cars 3’ Teaser Trailer: Lightning McQueen’s Dramatic Return

Just in time for Disney’s Moana this holiday weekend, Disney and pixar have released the teaser trailer for next summer’s Cars 3. If you’re scratching your head wondering why you didn’t know about this sequel, don’t worry, you aren’t the only one. Bit it is, and we now have our first look.

This trailer is the epitome of a teaser, offering close to nothing of dialogue or plot. But as the trailer progresses, stunning visuals and an extremely dramatic tone make way, with the ending shot showing just the beginning of a very serious crash involving our favorite racer, Lightweight McQueen. Usually, Pixar likes to tease the bright and colorful adventure that audiences are about to watch, but going this dramatic and frankly, dark, is something where I can do nothing but tip my cap. While the film won’t be this dramatic the entire time, dropping a teaser like this for this franchise is bold, very bold, and it shows that Pixar is trying to do something different with Cars 3, and hopefully all their sequels moving forward.

The Cars franchise, unfortunately, isn’t one of Pixar’s most popular. The first movie, while still loved, isn’t kept in high regard like others. And the sequel, it’s sadly one of the worst the animation studio has ever done, making the announcement of a threequel a total afterthought. But after this teaser, even I can admit that I’m quite interested in the next chapter of McQueen’s story. Cars 3 races into theaters next summer on June 16th, 2017.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
