Well folks, after over two years of waiting, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is almost here! It’s exactly two months away and with its final trailer being released last week, it marked the official marketing campaign for the film beginning. No doubt Disney will be paying much attention to their other huge property Doctor Strange for the next few weeks, but that leaves Lucasfilm with a great opportunity to market the film outside of releasing new footage, and that begins with new batch of posters.
Being a brand new film, and the first ever Star Wars spinoff, that means the characters (minus a few) are characters we’ve never met before. While that’s very, very exciting to open up the galaxy of Star Wars even more, it also means we need to learn new faces, and that’s not easy because most do not live in this space as we nerds do. As for the posters, they are beautifully clever. Not only do they focus on the band of Rebels who are sent to retrieve the very important plans, but those plans ominously glow on the faces of our heroes, which makes for some very artsy one-sheets.
Thanks to Collider, here is a quick description of the character included in the posters:
Featured are leader of the troupe Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones); Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), “an intelligence officer for the Rebel Alliance”; Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), a “cruel” and “obsessed,” but “brilliant” villain; Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen), “a warrior monk with faith in the Force”; K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), a robot unit “reprogrammed to fight the Empire that made him”; Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed), a “former Imperial pilot who’s seen the light”; Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen), a “soldier” and “friend”; and Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), who is “resolved to win the fight against the Empire.”
Gaze upon the deathly posters above and below, and also don’t forget to give us your thoughts in the comments. How pumped are you for Rogue One? What have you thought about the trailers? What are you most looking forward to? Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits a theater in a galaxy near you on December 16th, 2016 and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker.
From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
