The first trailer for Patriots Day has been released. CBS Films unveiled the trailer early this morning for the drama from director Peter Berg the follows the horrific events (before, during, and after) of 2013s Boston Marathon bombing. The film stars Mark Wahlberg as Tommy Saunders, a Police Sergeant who is working the event, as well as one of the many first responders in the aftermath.
Patriots Day marks the third time Berg and Wahlberg have teamed up for a true story drama about American courage and survival (Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon). The duo has found quite a groove with these films, as Lone Survivor was a complete success and although I’ve yet to see it yet, I’ve heard nothing but good things about Deepwater Horizon. Some of the biggest praises for both films have been how Berg is able to capture pure fear surrounding the event with his camera work, bringing the audience directly into the action. If Patriots Day is to be a success, it will need to do just that.
The teaser shows close to nothing, which is pretty much exactly what a teaser should do. Even so, I’m mighty curious to see not just how the events unfold, but how they are chronicled. I know the basics of this story and its real life counterpart, but I’m looking forward to watching everything outside of that go down. How were these terrorists caught? Who was involved? Those are the kind of answers I’ll be looking for later this year.
Take a look at the teaser trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments. Did you know about this movie? Are you looking forward to it? What did you think of the trailer? Peter Berg’s Patriots Day hits theaters on December 21st, 2016 and stars Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, and Michelle Monaghan.
In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard Deslauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of the most sophisticated manhunt in law enforcement history and the strength of the people of Boston.
