Finally! Disney has finally released the first trailer for Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The fifth installment of the franchise has Johnny Depp returning to his magnificent character Jack Sparrow, the drunk pirate who sweet talks his way through exploring the open sea’s. It also brings back Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner, which was one of the gaping holes of the last movie.
As for the footage, it’s visually stunning. While the last two entries have gotten a bit too silly at times, the franchise has never lost their sense of beauty or world scope. And sure, the final moment of the trailer did feature a little bit of slapstick, but it was a very promising teaser. The idea of keeping Sparrow hidden for now is brilliant, and Javier Bardem’s Captain Salazar looks like a pirate that might finally give Captain Jack Sparrow a run for his own money. Not only that, but the ghostly form that him and his crew should make for an extra bit of creep factor on screen.
Dead Men Tell No Tales, while hasn’t been in the news at all as of late, has been done filming since July of last year. While On Stranger Tides was a financial success for Disney, it was the least liked out of the four when it comes to fan and critic reactions. But with Disney bringing in fresh blood for the first time since the original, Pirates 5 is quite a promising blockbuster for Summer 2017.
