This year’s Oscar race just got one name bigger. While there’s been talk about Amy Adams for Nocturnal Animals (post coming later today) or Emma Stone for La La Land, Jessica Chastain may have just shot her way into that race as well with Miss Sloane. The film reunites her with The Debt director John Madden and follows Chastain as a lobbyist who risks her career by attacking the gun lobby in an attempt to pass gun control legislation, and the first trailer has arrived.
This is America, and more recently than ever, gun control has been a very big/touchy subject. So naturally, Miss Sloane is already fighting an uphill battle, but one that couldn’t be in better hands with Madden and Chastain. As for the trailer, it’s magnificent. The cutbacks from Chastain’s Sloane speaking into the camera to shots of her career and war she wages on the gun lobby is truly powerful. It screams a certain kind of essence that will have a massive effect on many who watch it. When it comes to Chastain, there are few (if any) who are better. With all the fantastic performances she’s turned in so far, she has yet to come away with an Oscar. But with this trailer, Chastain has a strong possibility of getting a third nod and could very well walk away with her first Oscar.
Check out the striking new trailer and make sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Is this the type of subject you want to see tackled? Did the trailer have any affect on you? How about Jessica Chastain in the role? John Madden’s Moss Sloane hits theaters on December 9th, 2016 and stars Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and John Lithgow.
In Miss Sloane, a ruthless and highly successful political strategist, Elizabeth Sloane (Jessica Chastain), exposes the cutthroat world of D.C. lobbyists working on both sides of the gun debate. New legislation requiring more stringent background checks for gun purchases is gaining traction in the Senate, and Sloane is approached to spearhead the campaign, pitting her against formidable and powerful political opponents. Deploying her notorious skills and driven by a desire to win at all costs – she jeopardizes those closest to her, and puts her own career at risk.
