Bryan Singer Says Mister Sinister Is a Villain in ‘Wolverine 3’

Wolverine 3 has been around for a while now. Hell, it has even wrapped production and we still know close to nothing about Wolverine’s threequel. All we have at this point is some casting and that Professor X will be joining Logan on this adventure. We don’t know any other characters being brought in the fold. We don’t know when the story takes place. And although it seems clear and quite fitting that the story will follow the “Old Man Logan” storyline, it has yet to be confirmed. But now, we may finally know who our adamantium clawed friend will be facing off against come next year.

A number of months against, Nerdist News had a story suggesting Wolverine would be going up against the Reavers, a group of cyber-mercenaries, along with their leader Donald Pierce who’s a member of the famous Hellfire Club. But today, Cinemablend confirmed that in the audio commentary for X-Men: Apocalypse, director Bryan Singer says that Nathaniel Essex will be a villain in the movie. If you don’t recognize that name, you may recognize the name Mister Sinister, which is the villainous alias Essex operates under. And other than Apocalypse, he is the most powerful bad guy Wolverine, or even the X-Men, will ever face.

In the post-credits scene in Apocalypse, Singer teased the arrival of Mr. Sinister, showing the title company Essex Corp. on a briefcase in the hands of a mysterious group of men retrieving Weapon X’s blood sample from that rampaging Wolverine scene in the movie. Following that, Singer confirmed that the Essex Corp. and Nathaniel will be making an appearance in James Mangold’s Wolverine 3.

So, is the Essex Corp. the bad guys this time around? All signs seem to be saying yes at this point. We know that Boyd Holbrook has been confirmed as a villain, described as the head of security for a global corporation on the lookout for Wolverine. But there’s no clear way of knowing if that means the sinister Mister Sinister, or if he’s working for the powerful antagonist. It’s also worth noting that back in April, Richard E. Grant was brought on board in what was described as a “mad scientist” role, with the character name being kept a secret. I don’t know about you, but “mad scientist” and Mister Sinister sound a hell of a lot like the same character. But take it how you will…

Either way, this gigantic news will hit very well with fans of the source material. Like I said above, Mister Sinister is one of the X-Men’s most powerful and popular villains, one fans have been waiting/begging for ever since the franchise behind 15+ years ago. With Wolverine 3 being not just Hugh Jackman’s final time in the universe, but Patrick Stewart’s as well, Mister Sinister sounds like a damn exciting villain to send them off with. James Mangold’s Wolverine 3 has a March 3rd, 2017 release date.
