Henry Cavill Has Teased a Black Superman Suit for ‘Justice League’

If you haven’t seen Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice yet, you might not want to continue on with this post. Even if you do that, you more than likely know why I’m saying stay away if you follow Henry Cavill on Instagram. Justice League has been well underway into its production for the last few months, but more recently have we seen an influx of teaser images released on social media by the cast and crew. Last week we got a cool photo of Jason Momoa rocking out in his full Aquaman get-up, now we get a major tease from Superman himself.

While Superman has sported his classic shades of blue and red the previous DCEU films, it looks like the Kryptonian will be getting a darker update when he rises from the grave next year. Cavill took to his Instagram early yesterday to post an image of what looks like an extremely close-up shot of a Superman suit, as you can see the outline of the House of El’s signature crest. With the final moments of Batman v Superman adapting the classic “Death of Superman” storyline, it would only be fitting to see that continue in the next major DCEU film, and Cavill’s post seems to confirm that.

After (supposedly) being graved by Doomsday, the “Death of Superman” comic book arc saw an alternate version of Superman rise, one that wasn’t a symbol of hope, instead calling himself Superman Prime. Along with the all black suit, Superman Prime rocked a grizzly beard and long, shaggy hair, which is as far away from the classic Superman look as it gets. And just as rumors and speculation have suggested, Henry Cavill will be giving us an adaptation of Superman Prime before joining the ranks of the Justice League.

It will be interesting to see this play out on screen, as there are versions of Superman waking on his own, but others featuring him alongside Darkseid and his agents, such as Justice League‘s villain Steppenwolf. While there are ways it can go wrong, I’m very intrigued with this idea. Although last month’s Comic-Con did unveil Superman alongside the JL, I’m more excited to see what comes before, as I have no doubt Zack Snyder has one (hopefully) epic action sequence featuring Superman against the world’s greatest heroes planned. For now, I’m just excited to see this story actually taking place, which gets me excited to see what else the superhero epic has to offer.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League hits theaters November 17th, 2017 and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Amber Heard, Jesse Eisenberg, J.K. Simmons, Diane Lane, and Jeremy Irons.
