After unveiling an announcement teaser last week, Paramount has released the first full-length trailer for Arrival. The alien invasion sci-fi drama comes from Denis Villeneuve, the brilliant mind behind Sicario and Prisoners. After a very intriguing teaser last week, the full-length trailer expands on this world where aliens have landed, but not yet invaded Earth. And it’s just fantastic.
The film stars Amy Adams as Louise Banks, an expert linguist who’s recruited by the U.S. Government when a mysterious alien ship enters Earth’s atmosphere. Along with Jeremy Renner’s physicist and an elite team, Banks is tasked with investigating and communicating with the spacecraft before time runs out.
Last week’s teaser definitely captured my attention right away, but this trailer makes the film one of my most anticipated films for the rest of 2016. Sure, it clearly has some classic aspects we’ve come to expect from alien invasion dramas, but a closer look reveals so much more. The UFO’s aren’t hovering over the White House or any major landmarks, rather including locations like the Indian Ocean and Siberia. And while the conflict may result in a military response, the main objective is establishing communication with the otherworldly species, not trying to blow them back to wherever they came from.
The most exciting element of this film is its original aspect. Not being based on a true story or book of some kind, I’m incredibly excited to see the story play out, learn more about the mythology, and discover the answers behind the mystery this is Arrival. And with Villeneuve behind the camera, it’s a sure bet winner, one that we could be talking about for quite some time.
Check out the first full-length trailer below, as well as 12 new teaser posters set at different locations around the world where these mysterious ships have set base. Now let’s hear what you think. Head down to the comments and let us know your thoughts on the trailer and your anticipation for the film. Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival hits theaters November 11th, 2016 and stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker.
When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
