Showdown Sunday #38: Best Year of Comic Book Movies?

Welcome back to Showdown Sunday #38

Every week we pit two movie related forces (characters, movies, directors, etc) against each other and you guys vote who wins (via. Fan Poll).

You’ve probably heard this debate before about which year produced the best (live-action) comic book movies. However, I don’t think many movie goers take into account the existence of non-superhero comic books. Films like Wanted, Dredd, and many, MANY others feature no superheroes. This came to mind when I thought about which year produced the best comic book movies, and it made the conversation a lot more interesting, at least to myself.

It came down to three years for me. Take a look at each one, including the five biggest below.

  • Iron Man
  • The Dark Knight
  • The Incredible Hulk
  • Wanted
  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army

  • The Avengers
  • The Amazing Spider-Man
  • Dredd
  • The Dark Knight Rises
  • Men in Black III

  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

So which year takes the crown as of now? Looking at the five selected films for each year, which one was just a little bit better than the other? Its all personal preference of course.

Place your vote in the poll below, and as always if you enjoyed this week’s SHOWDOWN, then please share with your followers and get their opinions.

  1. Easy, 2014, I didn’t even have to think about it. It has with The Winter Soldier and GotG my two favourite comic book movies, The Amazing Spider-man 2 was frustrating, but it still had its moment (love the fight scenes against Electro and how they handled Gwen’s demise), and while I am personally not a fan of Days of Future Past, the Quicksilver scene is all kinds of awesome.

    • Damn, I was trying not to make it so easy. 2014 is a great year alone with just CA: The Winter Soldier and GOTG. 2008 is pretty strong also with TDK and Iron Man. Incredible Hulk is very underrated.

      • Sorry, but 2014 was in my mind before I even read the options.
I think that the Incredible Hulk is mostly incredible boring, but I don’t like monster movies in general, so it was not really made for me in the first place.
