Part of what made the build up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens so special was the indication that John Williams was returning to score his last Star Wars film. Well, some breaking news has arrived that’ll make any film fan happy. Its been confirmed that Williams is returning to score not only for the next episode of Star Wars, but the final Indiana Jones movie for Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford.
What Williams did for The Force Awakens is terribly underrated, and I’m quite ashamed I didn’t recognize instant classics, like Rey’s Theme, until my second and third viewings. Having John Williams return is great news, and his answer for why is even greater.
“I told Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley.” (Variety)
If you follow Ridley on social media or seen any of her interviews, you’ll know she’s a real charm. Williams’ is clearly fascinated with her character, as are all of us. As for Indy 5, Steven Spielberg confirmed that Williams will score the movie. This is honestly more exciting news than him returning for Episode VIII, only because its right for him, Spielberg, and Ford to collaborate one final time and give their Indy a proper send off.
Director Rian Johnson is entering the final stretch of production for Episode VIII. Meanwhile, Indy 5 is still a ways from beginning production for its 2019 release date. For now, you can check out Williams’ latest score in the upcoming fantasy/adventure The BFG.
