We’re half way done with 2016, and so far Disney has absolutely dominated the box office. They currently hold the top three spots at the box office worldwide, with both Captain America: Civil War and recently Zootopia grossing over $1 billion. In the second half of the year, Disney will have another comic book movie (Doctor Strange) and animated film to followup these two box office hits. The latter is a currently unknown animated/musical titled Moana.
The film features the voice of 14 year old Native Hawaiian, Auli’i Cravalho as Moana, and she’s joined by the one & only Dwayne Johnson, who will voice a demigod named Maui. The story follows the brave young teenage girl who embarks on an epic adventure across the Ocean, to prove herself to be a true explorer like her ancestors. She’s joined by the once-mighty demigod Maui on her adventures.
As a fellow pacific islander, I’m not only excited but proud of a movie that’ll demonstrate some of the beautiful Polynesian culture. Early footage was shown at last year’ D23 Expo, where those in attendance were calling it some of the most beautiful animation work the studio has ever done. Dwayne Johnson has released the official poster for the film (via. Instagram). It truly is one of Disney’s best pieces of art in recent memory. Check out the poster below, and check back this Sunday for my reaction to the first teaser trailer.
It's my DNA, but hard to explain the "mana" (spiritual power) that comes out when I perform the Haka. Highly intense and emotional and I always need a few minutes to calm down after I do it. I also have to do this last 'cause I blow out my damn vocal chords. 😂 🔫 This is a small clip from today's work from our new DISNEY animated musical #MOANA This THANKSGIVING. #BloodPumping #Haka #Mana #TimeForWar #PolynesianCulture
A huge MAHALO to our #MOANA production team for flying in from LA and putting in a full day's work with me on this Memorial Day. These guys are master storytellers and it's such an honor creating with these brilliant humans. Osnat Shurer (our movie's "Rock" and creative producer). Don Hall and Chris Williams (directors and I presented these dudes with the Oscar last year for BigHero6). Charlyn Giampa (production supervisor). My mom (who wanted to hang out😂) and a guy who finally admitted to having a life size poster of me on his ceiling.. Jared Bush (brilliant writer who wrote a little movie that's just crossing $1billion called Zootopia. *Yawn). Love this whole crew and the whole MOANA production back in LA putting in 6 day weeks with me to make something AWESOME for the world. #TeamNoSleep #MemorialDay #MOANA #Thanksgiving2016
