Sure, it’s over-the-top and full of CGI, but man does Independence Day: Resurgence look like a damn good time. The original movie, which debuted 20 years ago, can be considered a classic. Not only is it one of the more memorable blockbusters of the last few decades, but it kinda sorta kicked off the alien invasion genre that we see on a pretty consistent basis nowadays. And so far, the long-awaited sequel looks like it’ll live up to the name, just in a much bigger fashion.
There hasn’t been a trailer of piece of footage I haven’t boughten for this movie yet. Am I going in expecting the best, most awesome movie ever? Of course not. I’m going expecting to have one entertaining time for a movie that’s born for the summer season, which is exactly when it comes out. But that aside, the story makes complete sense. Why would the aliens just give up? Just as we would extract their technology for ourselves, they would rebuild for an even bigger attack. Isn’t that kind of how war works until nothing is left? It’s the sequel to Independence Day that we’ve always kind of hoped for, and it’s really coming out at the perfect time.
Now the movie is now within that one month window, which means its marketing is going to be kicked up a notch. Just a few days ago, an extra-long extended trailer was released, which I’ll attach below. And today sees a batch of new posters for the movie, where we see what looks like the mothership preparing to obliterate our world’s greatest landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty and Big Ben. Take a look at the new posters above and let us know what you think of them in the comments below. Are you looking forward to Resurgence or does is it just to over-the-top for you? Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day: Resurgence hits theaters June 24th, 2016.
