‘Assassin’s Creed’: Michael Fassbender Is Reborn in First Trailer

For years Michael Fassbender has been working hard to get an Assassin’s Creed movie going. The star and producer of the upcoming video game to film adaptation finally got the story just right, along with the right man to tell it in Justin Kruzel (Macbeth). In this film, Fassbender stars as Callum Lynch, a death row inmate who is somehow brought back to life and taken to a multinational corporation known as Abstergo Industries. There, Callum begins experiencing the memories of his ancestor Aguilar in 15th century Spain, through revolutionary technology.

The first trailer has released, and I must say that I am pleased with what I’m seeing (and hearing). First, let’s address the elephant in the room. Kanye West’s may not be a likable person, but I thought his music fit in the trailer, with Fassbender’s character running, jumping, and fighting through 15th century Spain. The music could catch the attention of non-video game fanatics, which is great for marketing. With that out of the way, I love the trailer. Fassbender looks great and fits right in with what I’ve imaged for the character. I never actually played Assassin’s Creed, but I use to sit and watch my younger cousins play it, and was so fascinated by what I saw. The cinematography in the trailer looks fantastic, especially the shots of Spain in the daylight.

I’ve been following the development of this film with great interest. If Warcraft doesn’t quite be the hit I’m hoping it to be, then I think Assassin’s Creed will feed off its momentum and do great for a promising genre. Check out the trailer below.

Assassin’s Creed opens on December 21st. The film also stars Marion Cortillard, Jeremy Irons, and Michael K. Williams.
