A few weeks ago the first image for Elizabeth Banks as the Power Rangers’ villain Rita Repulsa was released and now we get our first official image of the Power Rangers themselves in their new and updated costumes! Check out the image below from Entertainment Weekly:
Before I get into my thoughts on the costumes, it is necessary to say that I was a huge fan of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series growing up. I also really like everything that has come together for this movie so far. The director, Dan Israelite, is a promising choice in my opinion since he directed a film I really enjoyed in Project Almanac which also deals with young teens in the science-fiction genre. Writers that have worked on beloved films like Thor and X-Men: First Class have worked on the script. Elizabeth Banks is the perfect choice to play a modern Rita, in my opinion. Everything, except Saban’s name being in the damn title, has been a positive thing in my eyes.
Well, you can add these new costumes to that list! Now, let me say, I don’t love these costumes but I really like them and I think they are a great updated version of the originals. I’ve heard some complaints online that people either think they look dumb or too different from the originals and I would have to disagree with both parties. I think these costumes look really cool and they had to be updated to fit modern times. Needless to say, I am super excited for this film but I’m also really worried because I don’t want to the movie to be bad and/or flop financially. Either way I will be there opening night!
