How “fun” should a movie like Suicide Squad be? Yes, it definitely should have a lighter tone than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, the last thing I want in DC villain movie directed by David Ayer, featuring characters like The Joker (Jared Leto), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and others, are plenty of quips and action scenes that are afraid of being a little violent. That doesn’t mean I’m against having a few laughs in the movie, but hopefully it stays faithful to the DC universe established. I have trust in Ayer, who wrote and directed this movie, to mix in some fun character moments, especially between Joker and Harley Quinn.
Ever since it was announced that Suicide Squad is undergoing reshoots, there’s been a sense of panic among fans who are quick to jump to conclusions. The truth is that reshoots have always been apart of big budget movies, so its business as usual for Suicide Squad.
All week fans have been debating whether or not these reshoots are a knee jerk reaction to the negative reception of BvS, and its overly dark tone. Rumors are claiming that Warner Bros is looking to lighten the tone and increase the humor for Suicide Squad. One of the actors from the movie is Jai Courtney, who will play Captain Boomerang. When asked if the rumors regarding the reshoots are true, he immediately shot those rumors down.
I think there’s plenty of [humor] in it. I wouldn’t say we’re going back to make it funnier, there’s some additional action stuff that we’ve been doing, which is pretty dope. Really we’re just kind of adding in that sense. (Entertainment Weekly)
Perhaps Suicide Squad never lacked any humor to begin with. Every theater I’ve sat in that played the trailer featuring the song Bohemian Rhapsody was met with positive reactions. Its a trailer that I can never get tired of watching. This movie is in perfectly good hands, and should give Warner Bros some much needed support and vote of confidence from critics and fans.
