Rumors have begun surfacing that Warner Bros will invest tens of millions of dollars towards re-shoots for their upcoming Suicide Squad movie. The story here isn’t what, but why the studio is doing this. According to BMD, their sources are saying that WB hopes to lighten up the tone, while adding more humor to the mix. The decision is said to not be based on the negative reactions received from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for its super dark tone. Instead, the amount of positive reactions from Suicide Squad‘s latest trailer (featuring music from Queen) prompted them to make such a move.
Re-shoots are a normal thing for any big budget film, but this could be a concern for the DC universe that has already been established. For all of its problems, I didn’t think the tone for BvS was one of them. Not saying it was perfect, and Suicide Squad could certainly learn from the audiences reactions.
For a film that features villains such as Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), I’m kind expecting a not so fun movie, especially considering David Ayer at the helm. Right now the anticipation for Suicide Squad seems to not been affected by BvS negative response. I don’t like the idea of Warner Bros digging their hands into a film, and possibly trying to fix something that isn’t broken. However, we’ll just have to wait and see what we get come this summer.
Suicide Squad releases in theaters on August 5th 2016
