Well here’s one way to tell you’re getting old. When you start waving bye to actors who’ve played comic book characters many, many years back. Hugh Jackman first played Wolverine when I was 10 years old, and here I am today feeling sad about someone who gave nearly 20 years of his life to one character. How selfish of me!
The point being that Jackman will be the first in a line of many actors readying to hang up their capes/claws/suits. In a few years, the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe will look different, with Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), and many others nearing the end of their contracts. Today, a very fan-favorite actor from the MCU has come out an hinted the end is near for his character. Supposedly.
Tom Hiddleston who plays Loki spoke with The Daily Beast, and said that “Thor 3 will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years. I love working with Chris [Hemsworth]. This will be my last time out of the gate”. He followed that up with saying his unsure if Marvel has made room for him to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, a film is pressumed to be the end game for many Marvel characters.
As a studio, Marvel has always been one to “go with the flow”. They do so in a collaborative effort, which separates them from the pack. The Loki character could be killed off in Thor: Ragnarok, or he could live to fight another (Infinity) war. No one knows for sure, and that includes the actors who star in these films. Could be a case of Hiddleston misdirecting us, much like his Loki character does so often.
Should the Loki character be killed off in Thor: Ragnarok, or should he stick around a few more films? Remember, they faked his death before in a previous Marvel film.
Thor: Ragnarok releases in November of next year.
