Welcome Back to Showdown Sunday #26.
Every week we pit two movie related forces (characters, movies, directors, etc) against each other and you guys vote who wins (via. Fan Poll).
Batman v Superman releases this week, and so I wanted to keep this week’s Showdown Sunday DC Comics related. Not many people realize this, but Warner Bros has done an exceptional job with their comic book movies having such interesting villains. Michael Shannon as General Zod was nothing short of great, and I wanted him to face off against another DC villain that fans love. Going away from the obvious choice (Ledger as Joker), I chose one that fans today know very well. That villain is Ra’s al Ghul played by Liam Neeson.
Who do you think is the better onscreen villain?
Here’s a refresher of each villain in their movies. Consider not just who’s the most powerful, but their also their motives and how you might relative to them.
Ra’s al Ghul (Batman Begins) – Suffered a tragedy when his wife was taken from him. He joined the League of Shadows with promise to deliver vengeance. He views the society among Gotham as unable to save, as its filled with criminals and corruption.
General Zod (Man of Steel) – Created for one purpose and that’s to ensure the security and future of Krypton. Zod felt betrayed by Krytpon’s consuel for allowing their home to be destroyed over time. Now on Earth and with his home destroyed, Zod’s only mission is to rebuild Krypton and guarantee the continuation of their kind.
