Best Oscar Acceptance Speeches: Three Six Mafia (‘Hustle & Flow’)

Its Oscars week everybody, and to help build up this year’s awards ceremony I thought I would doing something awesome. So all this month I will be sharing with you what I think are some of the funniest, coolest, most heartfelt, and memorable speeches from past Oscar winners. This one is from 2006 when Three Six Mafia was awarded Best Original Song for the film Hustle and Flow.

Sometimes the most memorable Oscar winning speeches come from those who didn’t expect to win at all. Here, I present to you Three Six Mafia, a rap group from Memphis, Tennessee. On this night, they won Best Original Song in 2006 for the song “Its Hard Out Here For a Pimp” featured in Hustle & Flow. When accepting their award, they clearly didn’t have a speech ready, but their excitement and presence alone had the audience smiling. These guys did everything in their speech by-the-book. Thanking their producers, their label, the Academy, their families back home. In-between were fun remarks like giving thanks to Jesus and shout outs to fellow rap artist Ludacris and even George Clooney. Considering this is only the second time a rap group has won an Oscar, and first time the winner was present (Eminem), it was a memorable moment for the Academy and especially for young viewers.

CHECK OUT SOME OTHER GREAT OSCAR SPEECHES I’VE CHOSEN BELOW.
