Female villains must be a hot commodity for upcoming blockbusters. Charlize Theron is being eyed for the villain role in Fast 8. Priyanka Chopra (Quantico) is reportedly the baddie in Baywatch. Now the highly anticipated Kingsman 2 is looking to cast Julianne Moore as the villain. The Oscar winning actress hasn’t officially accepted the role (according to THR), however I expect that to change very soon.
Recently, Kingsman star Taron Egerton praised the script and mentioned the villain is so well written to the point where it rivals Samuel L. Jackson. Anyone who’s seen the first film knows how great of a villain Valentine was. I have no doubt Moore will be awesome in the role, and the return of Matthew Vaughn in the director’s chair only raises my anticipation. Vaughn is a director who can get incredibly fun performances out of veteran actors (i.e. Nicolas Cage as Big Daddy, Colin Firth as Harry Hart), and continue to do so with Moore. Speaking of Firth’s fan-favorite character, there’s been no confirmation on whether he’ll return. I’m expecting his involvement to be kept under wraps, should he find his way into the sequel. As for the story, not much is known but we can expect some of the film’s events to take place in the United States.
Kingsman 2 has currently has a June 16, 2017 release date.
