When the concept of The Purge was first announced, it was quickly considered one of the greatest ideas of most recent memory. A world where America is crime free except for one 12-hour period once a year? Freaking genius. Unfortunately the execution was not what we were hoping, even with the pieces in place. But the movie made money, which meant a sequel. And luckily that sequel was exactly what we wanted to see from a concept such as the so-called Purge. The Purge: Anarchy may have not been great, but it was a hell of a lot better than its predecessor, which, of course, led to a threequel.
Now titled The Purge: Election Year, this third franchise installment may be the movie we’ve been waiting for from the beginning. Playing off of the real-time events of the Presidential Election, the first trailer for Election Year features a crazy and somewhat scary ride through the hours of the the Purge involving high-ranking officials and maniacal participants looking to turn the streets blood red.
