While Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still chugging along in theaters, many fans are beginning to set their eyes on the next Star Wars installment, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. If you aren’t a Star Wars geek like myself or many others out there, you will more than likely have close to no clue what the hell Rogue One is. For starters, it’s the first ever Star Wars spin-off, meaning it doesn’t continue the episodic story of the first seven films. Rather, this story will jump back a few decades and be set a handful of years before Episode IV, where it will tell the events of how the Death Star plans were stolen.
Now if your first thought is that we’ll be seeing a young Leia or Han involved in the hijacking, don’t get you hopes up. We will following a whole bunch of new characters, both Rebel and Imperial, along this journey. But, it would be wrong of me to continue on without mentioning that our favorite Sith Lord will be making his return. That’s right, Darth Vader has been confirmed to not just show up in the film, but reports lately have said that he’ll be playing a much bigger part in the story than we first realized.
After that, there isn’t really a whole lot more that we know. Last year at Star Wars celebration, director Gareth Edwards said that it’s called “Star Wars for a reason,” revealing that Rogue One will be a gritty war film and that “the Jedi aren’t coming to save the day.” How does that not sound exciting? Anyway, unfortunately I’m not one who is “in the know” with every film and all the details. So when it comes to this kind of stuff, especially Star Wars, I always defer to some of my favorite online voices, one being one of the biggest Star Wars fans I know. I’ve been following Kristian Harloff and Mark Ellis of both Schmoes Know and Collider Video for a little over two years now, as they’ve become two of go-to favorites for anything movies. And although Rogue One is a Star Wars film, it is still very much an unknown to the regular movie-going audience. And because it is, Harloff and Ellis decided to make a “everything you need to know” type video, giving everyone as much information as possible on the first ever Star Wars spin-off.
If you haven’t heard of or checked out both Schmoes Knows and Collider Video, I highly recommend you doing so. If you love movies, these guys, as well as a number of others that are featured on both shows know what they’re talking about. They don’t only know what they’re talking about, but they have a hell of a lot of fun doing it. Here are the links to both channels: Schmoes Know and Collider Video.
